Luisita and Alfredo are waiting in anticipation the arrival of Gumersinda, the new governess. Luisita is not happy because she thinks this person is not going to be as flexible as the previous governess who allowed her to make her own decisions like getting up late and studying only the subjects that she liked, and she could always go to the garden. Luisita thinks that someone named Gumersinda must be old and ugly and promises not to obey her orders on anything, and she will ask her mother to fire her right away. When Gumersinda arrives Luisita is surprised because she sees a young lady, pretty and kind. Alfredo and Gumersinda establish a nice relationship to the point ehere they play tennis and golf in their free time. Alfredo also shows her his insect collection, a courtesy that he didn’t even have for his sister. Luisita disobeys Gumersinda on everything and makes life impossible for her until, one day, because of the torrential seasonal storms Luisita has an accident on the river. Will Luisita’s behavior toward Gumersinda change?

Luisita y Alfredo esperan con anticipación la llegada de Gumersinda, la nueva institutriz. Luisita no está contenta porque cree que esta persona va a ser más estricta. La institutriz anterior le permitía tomar sus propias decisiones: podía levantarse tarde y estudiar solamente las materias que le gustaban y salir al jardín en todo momento. Luisita piensa que alguien con el nombre de Gumersinda es vieja y fea y promete no obedecer sus órdenes en nada, y le va a pedir a su mamá que la despida pronto. Cuando llega Gumersinda Luisita se sorprende porque ve a una señorita joven, bonita, y muy amable. Alfredo y Gumersinda establecen una buena amistad hasta el punto de jugar al tenis y al golf en su tiempo libre. Alfredo también le enseña su colección de insectos; cortesía que ni siquiera tiene para su hermana. Luisita desobedece a Gumersinda en todo y le hace la vida imposible, hasta que, un día, debido a las tormentas torrenciales de la temporada le ocurre un accidente en el río a Luisita. ¿Cambiará Luisita su comportamiento hacia Gumersinda?
